History

Habitat for Humanity of Rockland County is a volunteer‑driven nonprofit dedicated to creating safe, decent, and affordable housing for families in our community. Since our founding in 1993, by Michael VerSchneider, we have worked to bring people together to build homes, strengthen neighborhoods, and offer hardworking families the opportunity to achieve the stability of homeownership.

We believe that everyone deserves a place to call home — a foundation that supports health, education, and long‑term success. Through partnerships with local families, volunteers, donors, faith communities, and businesses, we build and rehabilitate homes that are sold at affordable prices to families who contribute “sweat equity” and commit to becoming long‑term, engaged members of the community.

Our work extends beyond construction. We engage the community through events, volunteer opportunities, youth programs, and partnerships that raise awareness about the need for affordable housing in Rockland County. Every project we take on is a testament to what can happen when neighbors come together with compassion, commitment, and a shared belief in building a better future.

At Habitat Rockland, we don’t just build houses — we build hope, stability, and opportunity. One family, one home, and one community at a time.
